Looking for a good name for a team leader? You’re in the right place.
Leaders are arguably the most important members of a team. They direct the team toward a common goal and are often looked up to by all members of the team.
Great leaders inspire a sense of unity, foster team spirit, help everyone get clear on the team’s purpose, and ensure that the team’s values are always top of mind. That is, as long as they are a good leader.
But what does it mean to be a good leader? And how can someone become a great leader? Luckily, becoming a great leader is a skill that can be learned, and the best way to learn is to do.
If you want to become a great leader, there are a few leadership skills and leadership qualities that you must practice over time. Without these leadership qualities, it doesn’t matter what your team name is because your team won’t respect you!
But, I’m sure you’re a fantastic team leader and that this list of leadership qualities will just be a refresher for you.
So first thing is first: let’s dive into 5 qualities that make a great leader:
1. A great leader is strong.
A great leader is kind, but firm. A strong leader will stand up for their team when necessary, and they don’t back down from others out of intimidation. When they believe they are in the right, they stand up for themselves and for their team with conviction.
2. A great leader is patient.
A great leader expects the best from everyone, but also knows that everyone is growing and learning which takes time. They have high expectations because they believe in their team, but if someone makes a mistake, they never dwell too long on it. If anything, the leader takes responsibility for the mistakes that their team members make.
A great leader also doesn’t make assumptions. It can be very easy to assume that team members are slacking off or taking their time, but a great leader knows never to assume and to always give everyone the benefit of the doubt unless there’s reason to believe otherwise.
3. A great leader is kind.
Leaders do not need to be ruthless or brash to be successful. They walk the line of being kind while being respected. They know that they can’t be a pushover, but that their team members are humans at the end of the day, and kindness goes a long way when dealing with them.
4. A great leader knows the value of time.
A great leader values time. They know how busy everyone is and how precious time is. They never want to waste time, and so they are always on time to meetings with their team members. They also don’t make meetings for longer than they need to be.
5. A great leader is trustworthy.
Team members feel that they can trust great leaders. This makes for an open and honest culture, which makes everyone feel valued and respected. Great leaders know the responsibility that comes with their team members being honest with them, and they never want to jeopardize that level of trust.

The Best Leaders I’ve Ever Had
As a 30-something, I’ve had a few leaders in my time. Some have been coaches, some have been mentors, and some have been bosses and managers.
The bad leaders and coaches really stick with you, unfortunately. But the good ones are that much more special when you’ve had to suffer through a bad one.
All of the bad leaders that I have worked with were unfair, dishonest, and not very likable. They played favorites, had a negative impact on my self-confidence, and my skin crawled just being around them.
The good leaders that I’ve had, on the other hand, believed in me even when I doubted myself. They saw my potential. They were trustworthy, kind, and the kind of people that you aspire to be like one day.
It’s always a breath of fresh air stumbling upon a good leader. To trust your leader gives you such a sense of peace and certainty unlike anything else. After all, your leaders control your destiny in many ways. You want them to believe in you, to push you, to make you better, but they should never make you do anything you don’t want to do, or have a profound negative effect on how you see yourself.
So this begs the question… what kind of leader do you want to be? Do you want to make the world a better place with your leadership or not?
It’s pretty easy for leaders to abuse their power. But my hope is that you and me and whoever else that is or aspires to be a leader is the kind that goes out of their way to help lift others up instead of being the kind of leader who pushes people down.
Let me know what leadership name you choose, and a leadership quality that you admire or something that you are working on in the comments.
If there’s one leadership quality that I’m trying to work on it’s to have more self confidence in who I am and what I’m capable of, because I find that the more confident you are as a leader, the more confident your team members will be. Team members always seem to mirror their leader, so I always want to be a good example for the people around me.
How about you?
